NEWS RELEASE...

Charity donation is child’s play

Young patients on the children’s wards at Queen’s Hospital are set for a more enjoyable and fun-filled stay, thanks to a generous donation of toys worth more than £1,000.

Phoenix Children’s Foundation donated the equipment and games for the play area of children’s wards one and two following a local fundraising campaign.

Lorraine Booth, Administrator for the charity, said: “We aim to help children with special needs or with life threatening illnesses wherever we can, and so the children’s ward of a local hospital was an obvious and worthy recipient.

“One of our volunteers suggested that the hospital needed some new children’s toys and so we got in touch to help.”

Emily Moore, Play Specialist at Queen’s Hospital, said: “We were overwhelmed when Phoenix contacted us asking whether they could buy some new equipment for the hospital. We were even more delighted to receive train sets, bikes and scooters, basketball nets, football goals, wooden vehicle construction sets, a programmable robot, and craft materials which will help us provide therapeutic activities for the youngsters.

“These toys will make a big difference and will help the children feel much more positive, by making their stay in hospital as fun and entertaining as possible.”

Phoenix has also kindly agreed to support the hospital in the future and is currently doing another fundraising campaign to enable this.
