~ Sue Ryder Care ~

A little bit about: Sue Ryder Care

We are situated on Palace Green in the heart of Ely, opposite its famous cathedral. Originally the home of the bishops of Ely Cathedral, The Old Palace has also been a convalescent home to servicemen and a school for physically disabled children. Since 1984, however, it has been part of Sue Ryder Care and has serviced a very different need.

The Old Palace provides permanent and respite care for young, physically disabled people and those with neurological disorders (illnesses associated with the brain). In Cambridgeshire there is a particularly high incidence of Huntington's disease and here in Ely we have developed particular expertise in that area. A specialist wing on the ground floor caters specifically for people with Huntington's disease.

Our care is provided by a committed, informed and skilled multi-disciplinary team and supported by research, education, local hospitals and other specialist organisations.

Our philosophy

We offer holistic care: that is, we look after the needs not just of our residents, but also those of their families and friends. We respect privacy, dignity and personal wishes and strive to achieve the highest quality of care at all times.

Event

The Phoenix Children’s Society has kindly agreed to organise another collection for Sue Ryder Care in Ely on May 24th.

All of the proceeds from this collection will go towards the continuing fundraising requirements that we have here at The Old Palace to provide Care that Liberates Lives. We are most grateful for everything the Phoenix Children’s Society has done for us to date, and this collection will no doubt be another success.
